St. Matthias the Apostle
Apostle chosen by lot to replace Judas Iscariot (Acts 1:15-26), required to have been a witness from John's baptism to the Resurrection. Tradition variously sends him to Ethiopia or Cappadocia, where he is said to have been martyred by stoning or beheading. Pre-Congregation.

St. Matthias the Apostle is invoked as the patron of carpenters, tailors, reformed alcoholics, traditional. Those in these callings or circumstances often turn to this saint in prayer.
“Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show which one of these two thou hast chosen.”— Acts of the Apostles 1:24 — the prayer of the Apostles at the casting of lots by which Matthias was chosen to fill the place of Judas (Scripture preserves no direct speech of Matthias himself).
