St. Maravillas of Jesus
Spanish Discalced Carmelite nun who founded ten Carmelite monasteries in Spain and India, devoted entirely to the contemplative life amid the upheavals of the Spanish Civil War. Imprisoned by republican forces in 1936 along with her sisters, she sustained the community through prayer and was eventually released into exile. Her foundations follow the strict observance of St. Teresa of Ávila and emphasize the prayer of reparation for the Church.
