St. Madeleine Sophie Barat
French religious sister who, in the wake of the French Revolution, founded the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1800 to educate young women in the Catholic faith. Under her sixty-three-year leadership the Society grew from a single house in Amiens to over a hundred convent schools across Europe and the Americas. Her formation method emphasized the formation of the whole person — intellect, heart, and will — in the love of the Sacred Heart.
