Spanish-Roman deacon and martyr (c. 225-258), one of the seven deacons of Rome under Pope St. Sixtus II; commanded by the prefect to surrender the church's treasures, presented the city's poor and replied "these are the treasures of the Church." Roasted on a gridiron, August 10, 258. One of the most venerated of the early Roman martyrs; pre-Congregation.
