St. Ladislaus I of Hungary
Hungarian king who, beside St. Stephen of Hungary, ranks as the second great patron of his nation. A model of Christian kingship, he combined chivalric prowess with deep piety, expanded the Hungarian kingdom, and oversaw the canonization of his predecessor Stephen, his queen Gisela, and St. Emeric. His just laws governed Hungary for centuries. He died while preparing a crusade to recover the Holy Land.
