St. Justin de Jacobis
Italian Vincentian priest and bishop, second great apostle of Ethiopia after St. Frumentius fifteen centuries earlier. Sent to revive Catholicism in the ancient Christian kingdom, he learned Ge'ez and Amharic, founded the College of the Immaculate Conception in Massawa, and ministered with profound respect for indigenous Ethiopian Christianity. Imprisoned and exiled multiple times during civil wars, he died in poverty in a remote Eritrean village while still ministering to his flock.
