St. José Maria Sacramentado Venegas
Mexican religious sister and foundress of the Daughters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, devoted to nursing the sick poor in the Sacred Heart Hospital in Guadalajara. Despite the violent anti-Catholic persecutions of the Cristero era, during which churches were closed and priests killed, she continued the hospital's work of mercy without interruption, sheltering and nursing the wounded of all sides. She is the first woman saint born in Mexico.
