St. Josaphat Kuntsevych
Ruthenian Basilian archbishop and martyr (c. 1580-1623), Ukrainian Greek Catholic Archbishop of Polotsk; key figure in implementing the Union of Brest (1596) and reconciling the Ruthenian Orthodox to communion with Rome. Murdered by an anti-Uniate mob at Vitebsk. First Eastern Catholic formally canonized (1867 by Pius IX).
