St. John the Apostle
Apostle and Evangelist, son of Zebedee, the "beloved disciple"; entrusted with the Mother of God at the Cross. Tradition identifies him as the author of the Fourth Gospel, three Letters, and the Apocalypse, exiled to Patmos by Domitian, returning to Ephesus to die there in extreme age—the only apostle not martyred.
