St. John Plessington
English secular priest (c. 1637-1679), Lancashire-born, ordained at Segovia and ministered secretly in Cheshire as tutor at Puddington Hall; arrested during the "Popish Plot," hanged, drawn, and quartered at Boughton near Chester. One of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales canonized 1970 by Paul VI.
