St. Januarius
Bishop of Benevento (c. 272-c. 305), beheaded near Pozzuoli under Diocletian. Two ampoules of his blood preserved at the cathedral of Naples liquefy several times yearly in a phenomenon documented since 1389; failure to liquefy is considered a portent. Patron of Naples; pre-Congregation.
