St. Irenaeus of Lyon
Greek-born bishop and theologian (c. 130-c. 202), as a young man heard St. Polycarp at Smyrna who himself had heard John; bishop of Lugdunum (Lyon) in Gaul from c. 178. His "Adversus Haereses" is the chief source for early Christian Gnosticism and a foundational defense of the apostolic tradition and the Rule of Faith. Doctor of the Church ("Doctor of Unity") by Francis in 2022.
