St. Ignatius Choukrallah Maloyan
Armenian Catholic archbishop and martyr (1869-1915), of Mardin, Capuchin-educated and consecrated archbishop of Mardin in 1911. Arrested with most of his flock at the outset of the Armenian Genocide; refused to convert to Islam and was shot at Cheikhan with hundreds of his people. Beatified 2001 by John Paul II among the Armenian martyrs of 1915.
