St. Hilary of Arles
Gallo-Roman bishop (c. 403-449), pupil of his kinsman St. Honoratus at Lérins, succeeded him as archbishop of Arles in 429 at age 26; metropolitan whose vigorous claims provoked his correction by Pope St. Leo the Great in 445 (the dispute that produced Valentinian III's rescript on Roman primacy).
