St. Gertrude of Nivelles
Frankish abbess (c. 626-659), daughter of Pepin of Landen and St. Itta; with her mother founded the double monastery of Nivelles in present-day Belgium and became its first abbess at age 20. Renowned hospitable to pilgrims and travelers; patron of cats (a later association tied to her supposed protection from rats). Pre-Congregation.
