St. Germaine Cousin
French shepherdess (1579-1601) of Pibrac near Toulouse; physically deformed and abused by her stepmother, lived in the stable, and tended sheep with simple and continuous prayer. Found dead at 22; her body was found incorrupt in 1644, prompting a popular cultus. Canonized 1867 by Pius IX.
