St. George Preca
First Maltese saint and founder of the Society of Christian Doctrine, known by its Maltese acronym M.U.S.E.U.M., a society of laymen and laywomen dedicated to teaching the catechism. For sixty years he formed catechists and taught the Catholic faith to Maltese youth in plain Maltese language at a time when most religious instruction was in Italian. Pope John Paul II called him the 'Second Father of Malta,' after St. Paul who first brought Christianity to the island.
