St. Gall
Irish-born monk (c. 550-c. 646), companion of St. Columbanus on the continental mission; settled in 612 as a hermit by the Steinach in modern Switzerland, where after his death the Abbey of St. Gallen grew up at his cell - one of the great early-medieval centers of learning. Patron of Switzerland; pre-Congregation cultus.
