St. Engelbert of Cologne
Archbishop of Cologne (c. 1185-1225), powerful imperial regent for the young Henry VII under Frederick II; reformer of his diocese and defender of church property and the rights of widows. Murdered by his own cousin Frederick of Isenberg in a dispute over the protection of nuns. Canonized 1622 by Gregory XV.
