St. Daniel Comboni
Italian Verona-priest missionary to Africa (1831-1881), founder of the Comboni Missionaries; named bishop and Vicar Apostolic of Central Africa, he labored in the Sudan against slavery until his death from fever at Khartoum. Canonized by John Paul II in 2003. Feast October 10.
