St. Ciarán of Clonmacnoise
Irish monastic founder (c. 516-549), founder of the great monastery of Clonmacnoise on the Shannon, one of the chief centers of Irish learning for centuries; died at age 33 only seven months after founding the abbey. One of the Twelve Apostles of Ireland. Feast September 9.
