St. Boethius
Roman senator and philosopher (c. 480-524), author of the Consolation of Philosophy written in prison while awaiting execution by Theodoric the Ostrogoth on charges of treason; revered as a martyr in the Diocese of Pavia, where his cult was confirmed by Pope Leo XIII in 1883. Feast October 23.
