St. Bernard of Menthon
Italian-born Augustinian Canon Regular (c. 1020-1081) who founded hospices in two Alpine passes — the Great and Little St. Bernard Passes that bear his name — to shelter pilgrims crossing into Italy. The St. Bernard rescue dogs were bred by his successors. Patron of Alpine travelers and mountaineers. Feast May 28.
