St. Bernadette Soubirous
French peasant girl of Lourdes (1844-1879) to whom the Blessed Virgin appeared eighteen times in 1858 at the Grotto of Massabielle, identifying herself as the Immaculate Conception. Later a Sister of Charity at Nevers, where her body remains incorrupt. Feast April 16.
