St. Benedict Biscop
Anglo-Saxon Benedictine abbot (c. 628-690), founder of the twin monasteries of Wearmouth (674) and Jarrow (681); made five journeys to Rome bringing back relics, books, and stonemasons, building the libraries that nourished St. Bede. Feast January 12.
