St. Barbara Kim
Korean laywoman from a poor Catholic family, refused to apostatize during the Gihye Persecution; arrested March 1839 and died of typhoid fever in prison May 27, 1839 at age 35. Beatified 1925; canonized 6 May 1984 by Pope John Paul II as one of the 103 Korean Martyrs. Feast September 20.
