St. Augustine of Hippo
North African bishop of Hippo (354-430), one of the four great Latin Doctors of the Church and arguably the most influential theologian of Western Christianity; author of the Confessions and the City of God. His conversion through the prayers of his mother St. Monica and the preaching of St. Ambrose is one of the great spiritual stories of antiquity. Feast August 28.
