St. Apollinaris of Ravenna
First bishop and patron of Ravenna, traditionally a disciple of St. Peter sent from Antioch to Italy; martyred under one of the early persecutions. The 6th-century basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe at Ravenna preserves his cult in stunning Byzantine mosaic. Feast July 20.
