St. Alban
Traditionally the first martyr of Britain, a Romano-British soldier of Verulamium (now St Albans) who sheltered a fleeing Christian priest, was converted, took the priest's place, and was beheaded for refusing to sacrifice to the gods, traditionally during the persecution of Diocletian. Feast June 22.
