St. Aidan of Lindisfarne
Irish missionary bishop sent from Iona at the request of King Oswald of Northumbria; founded the monastery of Lindisfarne in 635 and evangelized northern England with great gentleness. Died at Bamburgh in 651. Feast August 31.
