St. Adrian of Canterbury
7th-century North African abbot of African origin who came to England with St. Theodore of Tarsus in 668; led the school of Canterbury for nearly four decades, teaching Greek, Latin, scripture, and Roman law to a generation of Anglo-Saxon scholars. Feast January 9.
