Pope St. Fabian
Pope from 236 to 250, said to have been chosen for the office when a dove descended on him during the conclave, despite his being a layman. He reorganized the Roman Church, dividing it into seven deaconries, and was martyred in the Decian persecution. St. Cyprian of Carthage praised his pontificate as 'incomparable' for its discipline and holiness.
