Our Lady of Perpetual Help (also known as Our Lady of Perpetual Succour) is a beloved title of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The beloved icon dates back to the 13th-15th century, originating as a Byzantine icon on the island of Crete. The miraculous image depicts Mary holding the Child Jesus as He gazes upon the instruments of His future Passion, held by the Archangels Michael and Gabriel. Brought to Rome in 1499, the icon was enshrined at St. Matthew's Church for 300 years before being entrusted to the Redemptorist Fathers in 1866, who have spread devotion worldwide ever since.
